EPL: Man U 9 points clear at the top

Man U continue their dream run in the EPL, 9 points clear of second-place Chelsea. Today they narrowly beat a resurgent Fulham. Man U never really looked in control of the match with a shaky defence. Team captain Gary Neville’s absence from the field and the bench was a surprise, but Man U’s inability to control the ball was an even bigger one. Fulham managed to create several strong chances and finally a mixup on the defensive side enabled Brian McBride to strike one in for the Cottagers.

The equaliser came as a result of a defensive lapse when Fulham defender Molz lost the ball, and Rooney made a superb far post cross which skipper Giggs volleyed into the far corner. Still though, Fulham never let up and kept on asking all the questions. The yellow cards came fast and furious with the notable one being those for Ferdinand and Radzinski for an altercation on the sidelines after they contested a clearance.

Even in the second half, Fulham continued to press forward, with Radzinski’s header clattering against the post in a beautiful combination by Fulham. McBride and Davies were superb today and they forced Van Der Sar to earn his keep. The keeper made up for his earlier error with two brilliant saves, and Ronaldo’s 88th-minute goal gave the Red Devils their lead and undeserved win over Fulham.
